Polycarbonate is much more impact resistant and is the better choice for vandalism risk, heavy traffic, children, equipment contact, or harsh environments.

Polycarbonate is the recommended material where vandalism is a concern because it is far more impact resistant and virtually shatterproof compared with acrylic. Acrylic is durable for normal use, but polycarbonate is the safer choice for schools, public areas, parking garages, and rough industrial environments. As a tangible benchmark, polycarbonate is on the order of 250× more impact-resistant than equivalent glass and is the same material used in bullet-resistant security glazing.
